This heritage residence in Mt Lawley, positioned on a modestly sized block, required a carefully considered approach to the design of proposed rear additions and alterations. The aim was to respect and preserve the character of the streetscape while delivering a contemporary solution that fully addressed the clients’ functional requirements. The design process placed particular emphasis on ensuring that the new rear addition would benefit from ample natural light and cross-ventilation, enhancing both comfort and energy efficiency. Achieving these goals through thoughtful spatial planning and detailing allowed the project to progress smoothly through the planning approvals process, with minimal complications.
A simple, refined architectural language was adopted, incorporating neutral and light-toned materials and textures to create a harmonious connection between the original dwelling and the new works. This understated yet elegant approach has resulted in a modest but highly efficient design that meets the clients’ needs while complementing the home’s heritage charm - a finished project that the owners are delighted to call their own.
