ABOUT Andrew Macliver

Andrew Macliver Architect is a small architecture and interior design practice in Fremantle, Western Australia, formed originally in 2001 as a partnership, now operating as a sole trader entity.

Andrew is a registered Architect in Western Australia, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects.  He has been involved in many award winning projects since graduating from the University of Western Australia in 1986.  Andrew has also worked for a number of small and large practices both here and in Los Angeles, California, since that time, before starting his own practice, and has had a broad exposure to project types and clients in that time.

The underpinning design philosophy of the practice ensures that there is an inherent unity between form and function, one which equally balances the nuances of the clients brief and ambitions, and the necessary pragmatics of budget and program.

Whilst experienced across a large range of project types, the practice has developed a significant portfolio of modular building projects, through both the fabABODE building product, and design consulting on modular projects.  From individual houses to multi-residential accommodation and apartment projects, mining camps and accommodation villages, Andrew has developed a unique insight into not only the design of modular projects but the different procurement strategies that are available to these project types.

fabABODE is a small modular housing design entity owned by Andrew Macliver Architect, which has been producing modular housing units since 2005. fabABODE was recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects with a design award in 2007 for the standard 3bd1ba design.  Andrew has adopted a philosophy of quality in design for the product range and believes in a whole-of-building approach to design along with careful consideration of how the building is placed upon each site.

The practice has also developed significant expertise over the years in projects involving heritage buildings.  These have included adaptation and re-use, alterations and additions, and restoration of buildings for both the residential and commercial building sectors.  Andrew has also been successful in applying for heritage grant funding for several projects through the state government’s grants program, run though the Heritage Council of WA.

The practice has the capability to deliver quality design solutions to a range of project types, across a broad spectrum of the property development industry.  Within the modular building sector, Andrew has a proven track record of not only quality design, but of being able to deliver the product in what is a complex and different procurement environment.  With proven relationships with consultants and suppliers, Andrew can offer independent design consulting and advice to suit any project without having to “re-invent the wheel”.
