Parkerville Children and Youth Care Inc. has provided support to orphans and other children requiring non-family care since 1903. The campus on the outskirts of Parkerville in the Perth Hills region contains several buildings in a natural bush setting, most of which are heritage listed, including the campus itself, and in particular the St Michael and All Angels Chapel. As the organisation was founded by Sister Kate and other nuns, the Chapel holds particular significance for the organisation and the thousands of children supported on the Parkerville campus site over the years since. Years of neglect however saw the building fall into disrepair, and to assist with the viability of the project, we successfully applied for state heritage grant funding, receiving $50K towards substantial refurbishment works.
Replacing the ceiling was critical as the older one had long since fallen down, and with new timber lining sourced from second hand jarrah, re-laid roofing tiles and insulation, lighting, and rainwater management, the building was given a new lease of life.
